Dr. Bessie House on 90.3 at 9 Discussing Just-Released 2002 Census Data.

Dr. Bessie House, the founder The Center For The Study of Minority Businesses ( http://www.minority-business.org ) and the Entreprenurial Academy (http://www.eacademy.biz ), discussed just-released Census information detailing minority business both in Ohio and the United States in general on 90.3 WCPN Monday, April 24th 2006. WCPN is the NPR affiliate for Cleveland. Also on the show was Cleveland-area entrepreneur Vickie Trotter, owner of Trotter's Dry Cleaning.

"It's a pretty good time to be a black business owner in Northeast Ohio. Sales, payroll, and sheer numbers are up, according to U.S. Census figures. But the Census figures in question date from 1997 and 2002. Quite a lot has changed since 2002. So, just what is the status of black-owned businesses in Northeast Ohio? And what are the factors that distinguish those who thrive from those who fail? We'll talk about it Monday morning on 90.3 at 9."

Dr. Bessie House Selected As Keynote Speaker for the Premier
Northeast Ohio Black Business Showcase

April 21- 22, 2006

Dr. Bessie House will present a keynote speech entitled, “The Ten Personality Characteristics of Successful Black Entrepreneurs” at the upcoming Premier Northeast Ohio Black Business Showcase
which will take place on April 21-22, 2006. Dr. House’s presentation will occur on Friday evening, April 21, 2006 at 7:30 P.M. The venue for the conference is the Civic Conference and Event Center at 3130 Mayfield Road in Mayfield Heights, Ohio. Dr. House’s presentation in based on information from her fourth book by the same title in which she discusses the importance of having strong psychological capital. In her presentation, she will define what psychological capital is, identify the 10 personality characteristics of successful black entrepreneurs, and explain why the attainment of these traits has been so very challenging for people of color. She will also explain how to incorporate these traits into your current personality profile if they are noticeably absent.

Dr. House is an Award-Winning Author and Poet, Television Show Host, dynamic public speaker, Administrator, Inventor, Entrepreneur, and widely-recognized expert on entrepreneurship and economic development in the United States. She is the Executive Director and Founder of the Center for the Study and Development of Minority Businesses at Kent State University and the Director of the Entrepreneurial Academy in the Empowerment Zone of the city of Cleveland. Under her strong leadership, the centers have produced award-winning research, award-winning curricular materials, and training programs. More recently, the Entrepreneurial Academy was selected as a finalist for Northern Ohio Live Magazine’s Awards of Achievement in the category of Urban Issues.

Dr. House has written four books, numerous scholarly articles, and book
chapters. She is the author of the critically acclaimed book, “Confronting the Odds: African American Entrepreneurship in Cleveland, Ohio” which received the coveted Henry Howe Book Award. A much sought-after public speaker and presenter, she has made numerous public presentations to diverse audiences in the United States.
Dr. House will be autographing and signing copies of all of her books.
